Communication Networks

In November 2010 business leaders warned that the road network in Wales was "creaking". The Welsh Assembly Government draft budget was forced to cut spending for the economy and transport for 2013-14 by £10 million.

The main roads in Wales are the responsibility of Transport Wales. Transport Wales looks after 75 miles of motorway and over 1000 miles of trunk road in Wales, and each year spends around £210 million on this task.

Between North and South Wales the Intra Wales Air Service will continue, but there are major improvements planned for other routeways. Rail is seen as a sustainable way to travel and the Y Gerallt Gymro Holyhead to Cardiff fast train service will be maintained. Also the section of rail between Shrewsbury and Chester via Wrexham will be improved, including dualling (so that trains can run in both directions at the same time) along parts of the line between Chester and Wrexham. However the main improvements will be to the road network especially in Mid to North Wales.

Hollyhead to Cardiff Train

The A470 northwards from Builth Wells will have the most improvements. Nine sections of the A470 will be improved as well as sections along the A483 and A487. There will be widening of pinch points, new straight sections built to replace lengthy winding sections and even by-passing of locations where traffic jams occur. The details are:
