A year ago in issue 26 of GITN we looked at different political parties and what they stood for. We looked at the ways in which they were grouped based on how they viewed the economy (all about money and how it is earned, taxed and spent by the government and also nationalism and unionism.

You should follow these links to look at this information so that you can understand the policies of the different parties.

Choosing a Party

The information above tells you about the general ideas that underpin each party. However every party has a broad range of members and supporters; they choose the party that best fits what they believe and will rarely agree with everything a party believes in.

The ideas that a party believes in are usually reduced down to specific policies which are what the party would do if it was in power. Policies are usually decided by a vote by members or their representatives. When there is an election these policies are usually put in promises or pledges and form a party manifesto

In the run up to the elections in May each party will probably put a leaflet of their main policies or a full manifesto through the letterbox of nearly every house in Wales. Try and rescue these before they go into the recycling bin so that you can also use these to help your investigation.
